Risks Type 2 Diabetes

Across the world, Type 2 Diabetes is on the rise.

Today, 280 Australians will be diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. That’s one person every five minutes, making it the fastest growing chronic condition in Australia.

Diabetes causes serious health complications, affecting the feet, eyes, heart and kidneys of sufferers. It is one of the top 10 causes of death in Australia. Life isn’t just about how long we live, either. It’s about our ability to do the things we love and enjoy life. Diabetes can result in devastating complications, like amputations, blindness, kidney failure and stroke.

Type 2 Diabetes costs Australia $6 billion every year. Rising rates of type 2 diabetes will mean rising costs to treat it.

Diet isn’t the only factor in developing type 2 diabetes, with genetic factors also at work. But diet is one thing we can change, so it’s important everyone addresses this to minimise their risk. Read Dr Peter Brukner's article on reversing Type 2 Diabetes.
